Moments to Reclaim Joy

Creating “moments” for both the protective parent and their children is the catalyst for why we created The Healing Well & Living Free Foundation.

Through experiences like trips to amusement parks, weekends at camp, pro-sporting events, or days at the beach, domestic violence survivors and their children can reclaim joy and rebuild bonds.

The Science of a Moment

Moments like these are a catalyst in creating “glimmers,” which are experiences that are scientifically proven to offset triggers, bringing our biology back to a place of connection or regulation, as described by Deb Dana, a licensed clinical social worker and author of “The Polyvagal Theory in Therapy,” (2018). Dana states these experiences “cue our nervous system to feel safe or calm.”

Our organization’s carefully curated “Moments” encourage glimmers to take place and provide a beacon of light to domestic violence survivors and their children, proving that healing and hope are possible.
